Crumble

Crumble is a distinctive BHO concentrate format characterized by its dry brittle texture that crumbles into pieces when handled — similar in appearance and feel to honeycomb candy, feta cheese, or compressed kief. The name describes both the appearance and the typical breakdown behavior when manipulated with dab tools. Production: crumble requires extended vacuum purging at low temperatures (95-105°F) for 72+ hours, dramatically longer than other BHO consistencies. The extended purge removes more residual butane than typical (often achieving sub-100 ppm levels vs the 800 ppm legal limit) and also removes some terpenes (which contribute to the wetter consistency of badder and sauce). The result is a more "dried out" concentrate with crystalline structure throughout and minimal liquid terpene content. Some producers add a final low-vacuum vacuum-finishing step where the slab is broken up and re-purged at slightly elevated temperatures (110-120°F) to lock in the crumble texture. Color ranges from light blonde to dark amber. THC content: 60-80% typical, slightly lower than other BHO formats due to the lower terpene content (which contributes to total cannabinoid weight calculations). Trade-offs: crumble has the longest shelf life of any BHO concentrate (12-24 months stable storage, vs 6-12 months for shatter and badder) due to the reduced terpene content that would otherwise oxidize and degrade; crumble has the lowest residual solvent content for BHO concentrates due to extended purging; crumble is harder to handle than badder/budder (the dry texture means it crumbles into small pieces that are hard to pick up with dab tools, often requiring a small spoon-style tool); crumble has reduced terpene profile compared to other concentrates due to extended purge times. Use cases: dabbing (handle carefully with appropriate tools), topping bowls and joints (crumble distributes evenly across flower), and use in homemade vape cartridges (the dry texture mixes well with terpene blends after dissolution). Crumble is generally considered a budget-tier concentrate format, less prized than premium live resin or live rosin but valued for its stability and clean smoke character.
