How Royal Feed Coach Works

Generic feed charts assume every grower has a 5-gallon pot in coco at 76Β°F. Reality: your pot is 3 gallons in soil, you\'re in mid-flower under hot LED, and your last reading showed runoff EC drifting up. Royal Feed Coach takes those inputs and gives you a target that fits your situation β€” not a one-size-fits-all PDF.

The math: stage-by-stage base EC Γ— medium multiplier (soil 0.70x, coco 1.0x, living soil 0.35x, etc.) Γ— climate adjustment if VPD is provided. The pH target is set by your medium (it doesn\'t change with stage). Watering frequency + dry-back % flow from your pot size and stage. Runoff drift detection compares your runoff EC to feed EC to flag salt buildup before symptoms appear.

Royal Feed Coach FAQ

What is Royal Feed Coach?
Royal Feed Coach is an adaptive nutrient + watering tool for cannabis growers. Pick your stage, medium, pot size, and nutrient line, then enter your current EC + pH. The tool returns target EC, target pH, feed volume per watering, watering frequency, dry-back target, and stage/medium-specific notes. Optional climate sync uses your Royal Climate Coach VPD to adjust CalMag and feed volume.
What EC scale does Royal Feed Coach use?
EC 0.5 (the US convention): mS/cm Γ— 500 = ppm. If your meter uses EC 0.7, multiply our targets by 1.4 to convert. Most US-made cannabis-specific meters (Bluelab, Apera, Hanna) default to 0.5.
What pH should I run for cannabis?
Soil: 6.3–6.8 (ideal 6.5). Coco coir: 5.8–6.2 (ideal 6.0). Hydroponics / DWC: 5.5–6.0 (ideal 5.8). Living soil: 6.0–7.0 (the microbes handle minor swings). The pH target moves with the medium, not the stage.
How do I detect salt buildup?
Measure runoff EC and compare to feed EC. If runoff is more than 0.4 above feed, salts are accumulating. More than 0.8 β†’ flush with plain pH'd water at 1.5-2x pot volume, then resume at slightly lower EC. Coco needs runoff monitoring; soil less so; living soil never.
What is dry-back and why does it matter?
Dry-back is the percentage by weight the medium dries between feeds. Roots need oxygen β€” too wet β†’ root rot; too dry β†’ underwatering stress. Coco wants 30-55% dry-back depending on stage. Soil wants 40-60%. Hydro is continuous so no dry-back applies.
When should I flush?
Schedule: every 3-4 weeks in flower for salt reset. Acute: if runoff EC drifts more than 0.5 above feed EC, flush immediately. Pre-harvest: 1-2 weeks of plain pH'd water before chop helps with smoothness (debated but harmless).
Why is CalMag in almost every recommendation?
Most cannabis-focused 3-part nutrient lines under-deliver calcium and magnesium, especially in coco coir and hydro (where coco has cation exchange capacity that locks up Ca). RO water also has zero baseline Ca-Mg. CalMag at 5 mL/gal (~150 ppm Ca, ~60 ppm Mg) prevents 80% of the most common cannabis deficiencies.
Is Royal Feed Coach free?
Yes, completely free, no signup required for the calculator. Saving a feeding log to your Grow Journal requires a customer login (so your feedings stick to your account, not just a browser cookie).
