Indoor advantages: 4-6 harvests per year (continuous production), highest THC potencies achievable (up to 30%+ in modern strains), most consistent product quality batch-to-batch, weather-independent harvest schedules, security and discretion. Indoor disadvantages: high upfront cost ($2000-20000+ for a quality 4×4 setup), high ongoing costs (electricity 200-500 kWh per harvest cycle), labor-intensive (daily monitoring required), pest outbreaks can devastate sealed environments, lower per-plant yields compared to outdoor monsters. Outdoor cultivation: relies on natural sunlight (1500+ µmol/m²/s peak), seasonal weather, native or amended soil, natural pest predators. Outdoor advantages: massive plant size (single plants can yield 1-5 lbs / 450g-2.3kg outdoors), $0 lighting cost, complex terpene profiles enhanced by natural full-spectrum sun and stress, larger harvests per plant offset lower harvest frequency, lower carbon footprint than indoor electricity demand. Outdoor disadvantages: 1-2 harvests per year (bound to seasons), weather risks (rain causing bud rot, frost killing late crops, hail damage), legal visibility and security risks, harder pest management with airborne arrival, lower THC ceiling on average, climate dependency limits strain choice. Greenhouse cultivation hybrids combine indoor environmental control with outdoor sunlight, offering 2-3 harvests per year with reduced costs.
