How to store marijuana

1. Container Choice

Use airtight glass jars (e.g., mason jars) with a proper seal to prevent air exchange. Avoid plastic bags and containers, which can produce static and degrade trichomes.
2. Light Protection
Store marijuana in a dark environment. UV light degrades cannabinoids, especially THC, reducing potency over time. Use opaque or amber-colored jars for added protection if light exposure is a concern.
3. Temperature Control
Keep cannabis at a stable, cool temperature—ideally between 60–70°F (15–21°C). High temperatures can dry out buds and evaporate terpenes. Avoid refrigeration or freezing, as condensation may cause mold or trichome damage.
4. Humidity Management
Maintain relative humidity (RH) between 55–65%. This prevents both mold (too humid) and dryness (too dry). Use humidity control packs (e.g., Boveda or Integra Boost) inside your storage jar for consistency.
5. Odor and Contamination

Store cannabis away from strong-smelling items; it can absorb odors easily. Keep grinders, papers, or tools separate to prevent contamination.
6. Storage Duration
When stored correctly, cannabis retains quality for up to 12 months. Over time, THC naturally degrades into CBN, leading to reduced psychoactive effects.
Proper storage preserves the potency, aroma, flavor, and safety of marijuana for optimal use.
