How to clone marijuana plants

1. What is Cloning?
Cloning marijuana is a propagation technique where a cutting (clone) is taken from a healthy female (mother) plant to produce a genetically identical copy. It ensures consistent traits like yield, cannabinoid profile, and growth patterns.
2. Selecting the Mother Plant
- Choose a vigorous, pest-free, and mature female plant (at least 2 months old).
- Preferably in the vegetative stage to ensure optimal hormone levels for root development.
3. Preparing the Cutting

- Using sterilized scissors or a razor, cut a 4–8 inch branch just below a node.
- Remove lower leaves and trim large fan leaves to reduce water loss.
- Dip the cut end into a rooting hormone gel or powder to encourage root growth.
4. Planting the Clone

- Insert the cutting into a moist rooting medium (e.g., rockwool, peat pellet, or rapid rooter).
- Place under a humidity dome to maintain 70–80% humidity.
- Keep temperatures around 72–77°F (22–25°C).
5. Lighting and Care
- Use low-intensity light (e.g., fluorescent or LED) for 18–24 hours/day.
- Mist occasionally and ensure good airflow to prevent mold.
6. Root Development & Transplanting
- Roots typically appear in 7–14 days.
- Once rooted, transplant into soil or hydroponics and continue with vegetative growth.
